The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band formed in Chicago in 1988, led by singer-guitarist Billy Corgan alongside longtime members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin. Their 1995 double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was certified Diamond and became one of the best-selling albums of the 1990s, cementing the band's status as a major alternative rock act of that decade.
